What we hold about you
- Your account: a display name, a handle, an email address and a phone number (both verified with a one-time code), your date of birth, gender, country, language and time zone.
- What you write: the optional message attached to a secret. It is encrypted at rest and shown only if the secret becomes mutual.
- What you answer: Barometer votes and Duo answers, with the importance you attached to them.
- Technical: a hashed form of your IP address for abuse limits — never the address itself.
Other people’s contact details
When you name someone — to leave them a secret or to add them to your crush list — we never store their email or phone number in readable form. Your device turns it into a fingerprint first; our server salts it again with a secret only the server holds. A plain address exists only for the seconds it takes to send a message, and is never written down.
What we never do
- Reveal who left you a secret, unless you left them one too. No payment can buy that.
- Tell a sender that their secret was refused, or which names were guessed.
- Send a message about a secret that does not exist.
- Show Barometer statistics to someone who has not answered.
- Notify anyone that they are on a crush list.
Your rights
You can download everything we hold about you, and delete your account, from Settings — no email required. Deleting destroys the secrets you sent that never became mutual. Secrets that did become mutual are kept: they belong to two people, and one of them cannot erase the other’s memory. Your Barometer votes survive detached from your account, so published statistics are not rewritten after the fact.
Emails and SMS about a secret carry a one-click opt-out. Opting out is permanent and applies before any future send.
Who processes data for us
- Hosting and database — our own server.
- Email delivery (SendGrid), SMS delivery (Twilio) — only the address needed for that one message.
- Automated text moderation (OpenAI) — the text of a secret message, to block threats before delivery.
- Product analytics (PostHog) — events, never message contents.
Age
Unblur Me is for people aged 17 and over. We ask for a date of birth at sign-up and refuse younger accounts.
